Teaching and Learning Tips - Quotations
STARTING A NEW SEMESTER
When starting your new semester, make sure you get all the course material and a syllabus (outline) of the course.
In secondary school, they generally give you lots of helpful information at the beginning of the semester.
Don't just throw this in your binder and forget about it!
Look over all the details.
 What books or topics will be covered ?
 Are there any additional supplies you must purchase?
 Are there any additional supplies you might purchase to help yourself?
 Some students will buy a copy of "To Kill a Mockingbird" for example rather than use the school copy. In this way, you can mark in the book and not worry.
NOTE: Used bookstores are invaluable for this.
Pay attention to the grading.
Various assignments are worth more marks and may take longer to complete.
You can get a good handle on your tasks by planning early.
Make sure to use your student planner or agenda.
Keep track not only of due dates, but also of the days/times you will be able to prepare, research, do rough drafts, edits, etc.
Plan to review each night and preview new material.
Plan to take notes and use them frequently!
The time to begin preparing for final exams is on the first day of the semester.
With proper study skills and strategies - this could be your best semester ever.
